Ghost publishers now have a direct way to keep disposable email addresses out of their member lists. TempMailDetector’s new Ghost integration checks every new member’s email domain the moment they sign up, and automatically unsubscribes or deletes the those that are temporary or disposable.
Anyone running a Ghost publication with free or paid memberships will have seen many users signing up with a throwaway address from a temp mail service. These addresses affect your subscriber count, damage email deliverability and clutter Ghost’s analytics with users who were never going to engage. Our integration stops that.
How the Integration Works
The Ghost integration uses Ghost’s built in member.added or member.updated webhook. When a new member signs up, Ghost sends their details to TempMailDetector’s API, where the email domain is scored against our continuously updated database of temporary and disposable email providers and addresses. If the domain is disposable, TempMailDetector calls the Ghost Admin API to act on it automatically. When setting it up, you can choose to either delete the member or unsubscribe them from all newsletters.
No code or plugins to maintain. Everything runs through Ghost’s native integrations panel.
Setting It Up
- In the Ghost admin panel, go to Settings → Integrations → Add custom integration, name it, and copy the Admin API key.
- In the TempMailDetector account settings under Plugins, enter the Ghost site URL and Admin API key, then choose what happens when a disposable address is caught: delete the member (default) or unsubscribe them from all newsletters.
- Back in the Ghost custom integration, add a webhook for the Member added or Member Updated event, using the target URL generated in the TempMailDetector dashboard with the account’s API key.
